How often should I change the oil in my vehicle?
It’s best to follow your owner’s manual. Most recommend an oil change every 7500 miles or once a year, whichever comes first. However, these recommendations are typically under “ideal“ operating conditions. If you drive in any of the following you may need to change your oil sooner.
- Stop and go traffic
- Extremely hot or cold temperatures
- Prolonged high engine speeds
- Short trips less than 10 minutes in length
- Multiple car start ups each day
- Long periods of engine idle
- Towing or hauling heavy loads
- Dusty or muddy conditions
- Mountainous terrain
